  • 8 slices of white or sourdough bread
  • 8 thin slices of ham
  • 2 cups of grated Gruyère or Emmental cheese

  • 2 cups of whole milk
  • 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Nutmeg


  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a small saucepan, melt 1/4 cup of butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk until smooth. Cook for 2 minutes.

  6. Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard on top of each sandwich, followed by the remaining béchamel sauce. Sprinkle the Parmesan cheese over the top.
  7. Bake for 10 minutes until the sandwiches are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Serve immediately.
